Spirit Skaters

BGSU Spirit Skaters are a unique team that allows figure skaters to continue their love for the sport in a non-competitive, team environment. Formed in 2013, it is one of 11 collegiate hockey cheer type programs in the country. The team combines disciplines of freestyle (singles), ice dance, theater on ice/showcase, and synchronized skating to create entertaining performances. A minimum of three different programs are performed throughout each season. The BGSU Spirit Skaters perform at all home Falcon Hockey games before puck drop and during intermissions. They also perform at various other events on and off campus.

The main goal of Spirit Skaters is to spread school spirit and encourage participation in ice sports, while also providing a fun, team-oriented environment where figure skaters can learn new skills. Being an entirely student-led team, members of the executive board are responsible for managing the team during all practices and game days, as well as cutting music and choreographing team performances. Participating in Spirit Skaters has a high cost due to ice sports being expensive in general. All team members must pay for their own equipment (competitive rated figure skates, sharpening, skating tights, etc.). To offset additional costs associated with the team, we are fundraising to purchase additional team owned dresses, bow making materials, and to waive member dues.

Contributions to the BGSU Spirit Skaters Club Sports Enhancement Fund will provide additional funding to the program and support projects that enhance the overall student-athlete experience including uniforms, equipment, and other additional expenses. These gifts help supplement and offset the operating costs of the sport. For more information on how you can support Falcon student-athletes, please contact Director of Club Sports Bill Switaj at or 419-372-8045 or Assistant Director Stu Smith at or 419-372-8110.
