The College of Education and Human Development is a leader at the state and national levels because of our teaching, learning, scholarship, and service. From exercise scientists to middle childhood educators and family studies practitioners, our college provides a well-rounded education with an opportunity to complete field experiences as early as freshman year. Your investment provides vital scholarship support for opportunities from internships to education abroad experiences, strengthening students as professionals in their fields.
Expedition Fund (Study Abroad)
EDHD students are enthusiastic to make study abroad part of their defining BGSU experience. Your gift will help support undergraduate and graduate students studying abroad. The opportunity to experience other cultures plays a critical role in students’ development as global citizens.
EDHD Gap Scholarship
Students in the college are sometimes faced with urgent financial need. In most cases, a “gap scholarship” of $500-$1,000 allows a student to persevere to graduation. This fund provides the flexibility to help students who have unexpected financial hardships or extraordinary circumstances that have impacted their ability to afford higher education.
EDHD Professional Development Fund
With fuel costs rising and inflation increasing, EDHD Dean Dawn Shinew wants to give out an even greater number of gas cards at an increased amount to all students who are completing an internship, practicum, student teaching or other classroom-related experience at a distance from campus. Your gift to this fund helps accomplish this goal. A gas card can show support for our students for what can be a significant educational expense.
EDHD General Support Fund
All undergraduate programs in the college include culminating experiences such as student teaching and internships. This fund supports the college’s goals for recruiting, retaining and supporting EDHD students, faculty and staff, as well as college-wide initiatives, community involvement and alumni activities and events.
CSP Scholarship in Honor of Dr. Michael Coomes
Seeking to bolster its well-known academic and professional reputation, three supporters of the College Student Personnel (CSP) and Higher Education program at Bowling Green State University have issued a challenge to alumni and friends to grow an endowment that directly supports students in the program.
Long-time faculty members Dr. Michael Coomes, Dr. Maureen Wilson and alumnus Tom Jelke’93, have generously made commitments totaling $20,000 with a goal of creating a $50,000 endowment to support the CSP program in honor of Dr. Michael Coomes.
Your gift will help students like Ebenezer Kofi Asiaw from Ghana, West Africa, and Samantha McDonald, from Indianapolis, Indiana, who were this year’s scholarship recipients.
“I hope many students will have access to more scholarship opportunities that enables them to pursue higher education,” Asiaw said.
