Thompson Working Families Scholarship Match Fund

Robert and Ellen Thompson created the Thompson Working Families Scholarship to help high-achieving Bowling Green State University students overcome barriers to higher education and make a difference in their communities. Recipients of this life-changing scholarship must meet financial need requirements, have achieved academically, and be committed to continuing the Thompson's incredible legacy of service.

The Thompson Working Families Scholarship Program provides holistic support for each recipient and serves as a springboard for growth by creating opportunities for students to connect, engage, and serve from the time they arrive at BGSU or enter our program as an Achiever through graduation.

A Scholarship for Good

The Thompson Working Families Scholarship is a need-based scholarship program focused on rewarding academic success and a commitment to service. In addition, each scholar in the program receives:

  • Summer Link or One-Day Orientation Program for first-time recipients to ease the transition to BGSU; new Achiever recipients attend their scholarship orientation in spring and then a group meeting in August.
  • One-on-one support from a scholarship advisor
  • Group service events with other Thompson Scholars
  • Personal and professional development opportunities
  • Social interaction and engagement opportunities
  • Ongoing communication throughout the program
  • Leadership opportunities

Your gift will help BGSU match the Thompson's generosity.
Choose to come alongside Mr. and Mrs. Thompson in directly supporting access to higher education for deserving BGSU students by giving to the Thompson Working Families Scholarship Match Fund. For every dollar given by the Thompsons, BGSU must match it through other institutional or philanthropic support to fully fund each scholarship.

Each recipient is awarded an $11,000 scholarship, with $5,500 coming from the Thompsons and $5,500 matched by BGSU through generous donors like you. This ends up being a $44,000 value for our traditional incoming scholars, and $33,000 for our sophomore Achiever recipients. This is life-changing for so many of our scholars!

We invite you to be part of this extraordinary legacy at BGSU by making a gift to the Thompson Working Families Scholarship Match Fund. With your help, we can create endless public good through the thousands of additional students who will graduate from BGSU thanks to their Thompson scholarship and go on to lead meaningful and productive lives.

You can make a gift to a fund not listed on the BGSU One Day website here.
