Twenty-three percent of students who step foot on campus at BGSU are the first in their family to attend college, known as first-generation students.
The University is committed to welcoming families that might be overwhelmed or otherwise intimidated by the prospect of seeing their student head off to college. In response to this commitment, the Office of Residence Life developed a free Generation Falcon Summer Program for incoming first-generation students.
Generation Falcon welcomed 75 students in 2018, which was the first year this program was offered. The Office of Residence Life hopes to increase the attendance number to 100 students in 2019 and hopes to add a book scholarship for the participants to apply for.
