Extending interdisciplinary research for students
At the heart of the BGSU Institute for the Study of Culture and Society (ICS) is the goal of encouraging innovation in the arts, humanities and social sciences and sharing those messages with the broader community.
Faculty collaboration and research across traditional disciplinary boundaries has been the focus since ICS was founded in 1996. Now, with over 20 years of success of faculty communicating the value and significance of their work to the campus community and beyond, the next step will bring students into the fold.
ICS plans to extend its programming priorities to include undergraduate and graduate students. The institute will invite students to research interdisciplinary topics that are meaningfully connected to a wider community. The goal is to provide a minimum of two $250 research grants that will provide the opportunity for experiential learning through the research and a community engagement activity. The money can be used to support material expenses such as travel, software, books and materials and/or provide a modest cash award.
A gift to ICS during BGSU One Day will give students in the arts, humanities and social sciences the opportunity to do innovative research and share that knowledge with others.
