When the Academic Year Abroad Austria Program celebrates its 50th anniversary in Salzburg in June 2018, past participants will gather to reminisce about their experiences, reflect on the value of their time at Universität Salzburg and appreciate the people, such as Dzidra Shllaku, who made their visits so memorable. The alumni of the program are among the most connected and active graduates who consistently stay in touch and share the common experience of life in Salzburg.
For 50 years, BGSU has been providing a study-abroad experience in Austria for our students. Teaching our students to be global citizens is important in the 21st century. Education abroad programs offer those lessons both inside and outside the classroom, and integrate that information in daily life when studying overseas.
At BGSU, the Dzidra Shllaku Scholarship Fund was established in 1998 by former students of Dr. Shllaku and supports undergraduate BGSU students in all majors. Currently, approximately four students are supported each year through the Shllaku Fund. Increasing the endowment in the fund will help boost the stipend amount for students and increase the number of scholarships offered in the name of Dr. Shllaku.
With the golden anniversary celebration two months away, there is an opportunity to once again show your thanks for the difference the program made for you. You can also help ensure future students benefit as you did from the Salzburg experience. With your #BGSUOneDay gift and those of other AYA Austria alumni, the number and amount of scholarships available through the Dzidra Shllaku Scholarship Fund will increase, and the circle of Salzburg alumni will continue to grow and flourish.
