Our community has enjoyed the benefits of the Gish Theater for several decades, but now that the building must undergo very significant renovation, the Tuesdays at the Gish, International Film Series, and Sundays at the Gish events need a fresh, new home. As we prepare for the next 40 years of cinema studies and film production, BGSU is equipping the union theater to show films that have become the cornerstone of the Gish Film Theater programming each week. In addition, Olscamp 117 will become the new Ralph Wolfe Viewing Center – a central space retrofitted with the specific technology for the purpose of teaching film studies and viewing student work.
Though new plans for Hanna Hall necessitated refocusing the lens for the Gish Film Theater and Gallery’s future, BGSU recognizes the impact the theater has had for generations of students in the film production and studies programs, as well as for film buffs within the community. The student film organizations, the Department of Theatre and Film, and the University are committed to recreating an old-time movie theater atmosphere in well-equipped spaces to advance cinema studies and film production at BGSU.
#BGSUOneDay is your opportunity to join The University Film Organization/BG Reel as they spear-head this effort to create a film-friendly environment in these renovated spaces: blending new sound and video technologies with the charms and character of an old-time movie house. Additionally, your donation supports the preservation of the history of film and the importance of the Gish Sisters to their home state and region.
