Our students are entering a variety of health and human services professions and are driven to make a positive difference in the lives of individuals, families, and communities.
By supporting the College of Health and Human Services, you make it possible for us to attract and retain a high-achieving, diverse student body. Your support also defrays tuition costs for deserving students studying criminal justice, food and nutrition, gerontology, long-term care administration, health services administration, medical laboratory sciences, nursing, physical therapy, public health, social work, speech-language pathology and pre-professional degrees in allied health.
Thank you for supporting these important college initiatives.
HHS GAP Scholarship
This scholarship, originally funded by the College of Health and Human Services’ Leadership Council, provides annual gap scholarships, typically between $500 and $1,000, to students in need. When facing a financial hardship, like the loss of a part-time job during the pandemic or parents' financial support, this extra gap funding can often be the deciding factor that allows students the opportunity to complete their degree.
Diversity and Inclusion
This fund will support student activities related to the college’s diversity and inclusion initiatives. In particular, assistance will be given to students who work with the college’s diversity fellow.
Food Insecurity Efforts
In January 2022, in direct response to combating food security efforts on campus, BGSU launched the Falcon Food and Resource Community. Beyond a food pantry, this initiative provides nutrition education sessions, wrap-around referral support services, internship opportunities for nutrition and public administration students and even a mobile teaching kitchen to provide hands-on experiences across many cultures. Gifts to this fund will directly support food security on both the Bowling Green and Huron campuses.
Gerontology
Since awarding our first degree in 1976, BGSU has been preparing graduates for positions in agencies and institutions that administer and deliver services for older adults including senior centers, social service and health care agencies, and nursing homes. Gifts to this fund will support professional development opportunities for students, internships and other recruitment and retention initiatives.
Nursing
To better meet the demand for nurses nationwide and the academic aspirations of our students, this fund provides for the program’s greatest needs including professional development opportunities, clinical experiences, student recruitment and retention and more.
Physical Therapy
BGSU’s developing Doctorate of Physical Therapy Program is Ohio’s first and only public, accelerated, hybrid (online and in-person) DPT Program. Poised to meet the increasing demand for PT clinicians, gifts to this fund will support student recruitment and retention initiatives, professional development opportunities, clinical experiences and more.
Social Work
BGSU’s baccalaureate and master’s degree in social work are innovate and comprehensive degree programs which allow students to participate in service learning and field opportunities to gain hands-on social work practice while honing their skills in the classroom. All our students are trained to work with vulnerable populations, not only to make a difference but to learn what motivates people and communities to make positive change, and to promote social justice and human dignity for all people. Gifts to this fund will support expanded internship opportunities, service-learning initiatives, professional development and more.
Speech and Hearing Clinic
The Speech and Hearing Clinic offers state-of-the-art diagnostic and therapeutic speech, language, and hearing services. It is open to the public and serves all ages, providing an important community service as well as serving as an educational facility for master's and doctoral-level speech-language pathologists. This fund supports the operational needs of the Speech and Hearing Clinic.
